5 tips for healthy eating while traveling
For me the almost 3 weeks holiday in the US was one Hard test: On the one hand I want to treat myself on holiday, lazily lie in the sun and feast on foreign countries.
On the other hand, I do not want to come home with 3 kilos on my hips and the progress in the last months.
Since I generally move much more on holiday than at home, I had no reservations about sports. I went to the gym a couple of times when the opportunity arose, but did not drive me crazy. But the diet ... Especially in the US, there is a new donut shop or a greasy pizza on every corner. It was really a challenge for me to continue my healthy diet as best I could, with one or the other exception. My 5 tips for healthy eating while traveling:
Tip # 1: The holiday is to relax - enjoy yourself!
No matter what you do - on vacation, fun and relaxation must come first. What is the use of a holiday if you only spend with calorie counting all the time? There's no point in forbidding pizza on Lake Garda if you spoil yourself all night and poke around in the salad pouting.
Tip # 2: Intuitive Food
I usually have set times when I eat. On vacation, I can completely forget my plan because of the time difference. That's why I ate when I was hungry. Sounds like a matter of course - but it is often not! Sometimes you do not eat for starvation, but because the hotel breakfast is only open until 9am.
Tip # 3: Snack it, snack it, snack it good!
If I go but hungry, must eat. Immediately! That's why I always had a snack in my purse. Perfect for in between are apples, bananas or nuts. Protein bars are deliciously tempting and easy, but I try to avoid finished products as much as possible. Incidentally, the same applies to the water bottle that I always carry with me!
Tip # 4: Scan the Menu
There was at least a halfway healthy dish in every restaurant we stayed in the US. Sure, I could order the crispy bacon burger too, but I know for sure that I'll become obnoxiously sluggish and slack. That's why I often opted for salads with white meat, fish or avocado. You can also modify your order. For example, at our first breakfast in New York, I had the side dishes of chips mixed with tomato omelette (see photo above!).
Tip # 5: Cook it yourself - CIY
Improvised microwave dinner: cheese-topped sweet potato, black beans, yogurt, and carrots with some garlic butter. The "cleanest", what I've done with a micro in the motel! In the USA I have diligently posted all delicacies there! So if you're looking for inspiration for (mostly) healthy food, I'm glad if you get a pummeling fit subscribed!
With these few easy tricks, I have it managed not just to give me some food (dumplings, pizza, Ben & Jerry's ...), but also to keep my weight! It's just a compromise: a donut, a pizza, a peanut butter Cups - but not constantly. Try to find a balance of delicacies and wholesome food as much as you can, but do not stress yourself. Holiday is here to relax!
