Walnut Apple Overnight Oats Recipe
These apple walnut overnight oats are a convenient make-ahead breakfast with crisp fruit, warming cinnamon, and crunchy nuts. Prepare them in the evening and refrigerate overnight.
Ingredients
Makes 1 serving.
- 45 g rolled oats
- 120 ml milk or an unsweetened plant-based alternative
- 60 g plain yogurt
- 1 small apple, cored and chopped or grated
- 15 g walnuts, roughly chopped
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup or honey, optional
- 1 pinch of salt
Instructions
- Combine the oats, milk, yogurt, chia seeds, cinnamon, optional sweetener, and salt in a jar or covered bowl.
- Fold in most of the apple and walnuts, reserving a little of each for serving.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Stir before serving. If the oats are thicker than desired, add a small splash of milk.
- Top with the reserved apple and walnuts. Serve chilled or warm gently before eating.
Useful Variations
- For softer fruit, briefly cook the apple with cinnamon before adding it to the oats.
- For extra protein, use Greek-style yogurt or add a spoonful of nut butter.
- For a dairy-free version, choose plant-based milk and yogurt.
- For additional sweetness, add raisins, chopped dates, or more maple syrup.
Storage
Keep the oats covered in the refrigerator and consume within 2 days. For the best texture, add any walnuts reserved for topping immediately before serving.
